Scripture reading: Judges 4:21,22
But Jael, Heber's wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and Jael went out to meet him. "Come," she said, "I will show you the man you're looking for." So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg through his temple – dead. CONTENT NOTES/IDEAS
Scripture shows women are vicious, cruel. And full of sin. Anyone here heard of Eve, how she bought sin upon the world? How about Delilah? Sold Samson out, not once or twice, but three times! Rahab the Ho? Today she'd be considered a terrorist to Jericho, the very city she lived and worked in. God gave Miriam leprosy but not Aaron, even though both betrayed Moses – why? Mention others, if time permits. Quote how Proverbs 29:15 teaches us about children and how a rod of correction imparts wisdom. Today we Christians call it tough love. Note to self: Do Brothers of the Muslim faith go too far in making women subservient – or not far enough? Must investigate Seychelles Islands. They're Muslim and have great beaches. Do they have extradition treaty with U.S.? RESEARCH
Even more startling, in 2002, Intimate Partner Violence, or IPV, what used to be called spousal or domestic abuse, 24% the homicide victims were male, 76% were female. 24%!A national study found that 29% of women and 22% of men had experienced physical, sexual, or psychological IPV during their lifetime. Nearly 5.3 million incidents of IPV occur each year among U.S. women ages 18 and older, and 3.2 million incidents occur among men include pushing, grabbing, shoving, slapping and hitting. Every year, about 1.5 million women and more than 800,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner. This translates into about 47 IPV assaults per 1,000 women and 32 assaults per 1,000 men. Estimates indicate more than 1 million women and 371,000 men are stalked by intimate partners each year. One study found that 44% of women murdered by their intimate partner had visited an emergency department within 2 years of the homicide. Of these women, 93% had at least one injury visit. Previous literature suggests that women who have separated from their abusive partners often remain at risk of violence. Between 4% and 8% of pregnant women are abused at least once during the pregnancy. The National Crime Victimization Survey found that 85% of IPV victims were women. Prevalence of IPV varies among race. Among the ethnic groups most at risk are American Indian/Alaskan Native women and men, African-American women, and Hispanic women. IPV results in nearly 2 million injuries and 1,300 deaths nationwide every year. According to the CDC website. Look into getting that mole on the right side of my face removed. Is my passport up to date? What's the next flight to Seychelles? CLOSING HYMN
